Of course, Marc Jacobs fall/winter collection was seen on the NYFW runway this past month. He wowed everyone with his classic clothing, where each piece brought with it a feeling of nostalgia. His collection featured the basics of business attire and evening wear. There were blazers, a-line coats, skirt and pant suits, and mini-dresses. The colors were simple, and there were no outlandish designs or patterns. He threw it back to the Jackie Kennedy era, where fashion was minimalistic, professional and sleek. His evening wear was also very humble. It was intricate in its detail, but modest overall. Miley Cyrus even made an appearance modeling a pair of Jacobs’ black trousers and a matching black bra down the runway.
I definitely can appreciate the inspiration behind Jacobs’ collection, and the fact that he was bringing back early 90’s fashion. However, this collection was not one of my favorites. Some of the fabrics Jacobs used for the ready to wear collection looked bulky and itchy, like wool school girl skirts; which the stereotypical plaid color of these also made an appearance. There were minimal colors too; lots of blacks, grays, browns, blues and reds. It was purposely made simple, but a lot of the pieces looked too similar to me, and it felt very “safe.” I did enjoy the few evening wear pieces much better, though. There were sparkles and ruffles and texture to the material of these dresses. They were still found in neutral colors, but there was some more excitement to these pieces.
