This runway show was mystical, gothic, and beautiful. The models of Rodarte’s fall/winter collection strutted down the runway in beautiful gowns, looking like real life vampires and witches, as the inspiration for this collection was Dracula. The looks had an element of magic to them and had many spooky features, such as statement sleeves, capes, purple orchid leis, spiderweb designs, and lots of sparkles. The gowns were mainly dark purple and blue, black, silver, and deep red. It was very artistic, yet feminine and wearable.
The designers behind Rodarte are sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy, who had a designing hiatus and took a few years off, but are now back and better than ever. They have faced critique in the past that their looks were “too whimsical and imaginative” and called the sister “cloyingly naive” (refinery21.com). The sisters won over the crowd with this collection and had a show that fit the theme.
I love this collection because it is not like any of the others. It is eerie but elegant, and had intricate but wearable designs. The show itself was in St. Bartholomew’s Church in Midtown Manhattan and was dark with flickering candles. It was very well done and intriguing to watch.
