The Oscars is an event with an abundance of fashion. With celebrities all coming together for this special occasion, they are bound to set some trends, which is definitely what occurred.
I noticed that almost all of the guests wore muted or neutral colors. They all were simplistic but elegant, and had certain details stand out, whether it be jewelry, a pattern or design, or sparkles. Some colors that stood out to me were blue, black, and nude. There were many different shades and styles of these dresses, but these colors seemed to appear more than most. No one really wore any bright colors; even the few that wore red or pink kept it subtle.
I also noted that more than half of the female guests wore updos, which included their hair in buns, pony tails, or half up-half down looks. This is probably so their hair didn’t detract from the exquisite details of the gowns, and because updo’s are seen as more formal.
The Academy Awards is an extremely classy and glamorous event, which makes sense why the attendees decided to keep it more “simple” than usual. Neutral colors are classy and when worn right, are very beautiful. To be honest, there wasn’t one outfit that I thought was super unattractive. I admired this trend because it fit the event and everyone dressed to impress.
Some looks that stood out me specifically were Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s navy blue Vera Wang gown complete with a Harry Winston necklace. Her hair was down but was flattering against the color of the dress, and really showed it off. The dress was form fitting, flattering, and very elegant. Brie Larson wore a nude Celine gown, dripping in glitter, with matching jewelry. She wore her hair slicked back and allowed her dress to take all the attention. Lastly, Gal Gadot was flaunting a Givenchy Haute Couture gown, with a full blush pink skirt, and black lace top. Her large diamond necklace and red lip made a statement, and again her hair was in a neat updo. She took a risk with the contrast of the top against the skirt, but she pulled it off very well.

My favorite look however, not because of the gown itself but for the message behind the gown, was Natalie Portman. She was stunning in a simple black and gold Dior gown, with a black cape. On the cape, we’re embroidered female director’s names who were deserving of, but not nominated for, any Oscar awards this year. This dress really made a statement and vouched for female empowerment. Natalie’s makeup and hair was beautiful but very simple, as she wanted the message of her outfit to stand out and be the main focus; which it definitely was.
